A 31-year veteran of the collegiate and professional sports landscape, Greg Myford enters his first season as Director of Athletics at the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2018-19.
Myford began his role at UAA on July 31, 2018, coming north after spending the previous six years with marketing and sponsorship firm IMG College. Working as an associate regional vice president, and most recently as the general manager of Seminole IMG Sports at Florida State University, he was responsible for the design and management of multimedia rights agreements and corporate sponsorships for a number of prominent universities, such as Florida State, Florida and Tulane, and major conferences such as the SEC, ACC and AAC.
A native Pennsylvanian, Myford spent a decade from 2004-13 at his alma mater, Penn State University, where he was the associate AD for business relations and communications. In State College, he was responsible for a myriad of external affairs areas – including marketing and branding, corporate sponsorships, ticketing, communications, fund raising – within a department comprised of 800 student-athletes, 250 staff and coaches and 32 sports programs. Under his leadership, the Nittany Lions achieved previously unseen achievements in event attendance, facility enhancements and revenue generation.
Myford earned his BA in broadcast journalism from Penn State in 1986, graduating with honors and beginning his professional career in the emerging cable television industry. From there, he earned executive roles in professional sports, serving as senior VP for corporate development with the Detroit Pistons organization from 1999-2003 and as senior VP for business development with the Stanley Cup-champion Tampa Bay Lightning from 2003-04.
Myford is the father of two daughters – Madeline and Miranda – who are currently attending college at Penn State and Ole Miss, respectively.
