Seawolves blank Panthers in opener

ANCHORAGE - Sophomore McKenzie Moss ripped 14 kills as the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team premiered Friday with a 25-14, 25-13, 25-11 sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan in the first match of the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

The Seawolves dominated from start to finish, getting 27 assists from senior setter Calli Scott and eight digs from senior libero Stacie Meisner.

The Panthers, of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, were led by six kills from middle blocker Hayley Chrzastowski.

UAA's defense was solid against the visitors from Owensboro, Ky., winning the blocking battle 8-2, out-digging them 36-27, and allowing just a -.111 attack percentage.

Moss, a sophomore from Bartlett High School, doubled her previous career-high in kills and tripled her best attack percentage from her rookie year, hitting an impressive .458 (14 kills-3 errors-24 attacks). She also delivered four block assists.

Sophomore transfer Jackie Matthisen, from East Anchorage High School, made a solid debut with four kills and five digs, while junior Cortney Lundberg had four kills and three blocks. Freshman Marie Borowikow had three kills.

The Seawolves return to the WFSC court at 7 p.m. to take on Academy of Art (Calif.) in the tournament's fourth match.
