The Seawolves celebrate with the championship gold pan after winning the 2008 Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational with a 3-0 rout of Texas Woman's.

ANCHORAGE – Tournament Most Outstanding Player Calli Scott had 33 assists and 10 digs Saturday night as host Alaska Anchorage rolled to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-16 victory over Texas Woman’s in the title match of the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

With the win, the Seawolves (4-1) earned the championship of their own tournament for just the third time in 14 tries, having won it back-to-back in 2002 and 2003.

Rhea Cardwell pounded 15 kills on .342 hitting for UAA, while Rachel Kidwell provided 13 kills with a .310 hitting percentage. Cardwell and Kidwell were joined on the all-tournament team by junior libero Stacie Meisner (match-high 14 digs).

Texas Woman’s (2-2), of the Lone Star Conference, got seven kills from all-tourney pick Danielle Veitenheimer and 10 digs from libero Arden Richardson.

The Seawolves also got a team season-best eight blocks from sophomore Cortney Lundberg as they matched the program’s best start to a season since 2004.

UAA’s four total wins are already just one shy of its entire win total from 2007.

The Seawolves hit the road for the first time Sept. 5 and 6 when they travel to Phoenix for the Grand Canyon Cactus Classic, where they will play Western State, Point Loma Nazarene and host GCU.
