Seawolves top Pioneers for 3rd straight win

ANCHORAGE – Sophomore Cortney Lundberg had 10 kills and three other Seawolves notched nine Saturday as the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team completed round-robin play undefeated with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-13 win over Texas Woman’s in the Extended Stay Deluxe Invitational.

Senior outside hitter Rachel Kidwell had nine kills and 17 digs for UAA (3-1 overall, 3-0 in tourney), which equaled its best start to a season since 2004.

TWU (2-1) got a team-high eight kills from Danielle Veitenheimer, while Sharon Schaffner had six kills and 10 digs for the Lone Star Conference squad.

The same teams will meet tonight in the 7 p.m. title match.

Lundberg, a sophomore middle hitter from Hardin, Mont., blasted her way to a .625 hitting percentage (10 kills-0 errors-16 attempts), while setter Calli Scott managed 34 assists, a season-best five kills and three aces.

Other heroes for UAA included senior outside hitter Joanna Johnson (9 kills, .400 att%, 16 digs), senior outside hitter Rhea Cardwell (9 kills) and junior libero Stacie Meisner (17 digs, 2 aces).
