OMAHA, NEB. – Nebraska Omaha scored three times in the third period to defeat the Alaska Anchorage hockey team 3-0 Saturday.
"We played 50 minutes of really good hockey, pushing the pace and creating some great chances," said head coach Matt Curley. "Unfortunately, we failed to finish things off and it slipped at the end. All in all it was a solid game back after coming out of the break and feel confident we can still come away with a split this weekend."
Jeremiah Luedtke had a good scoring opportunity for the Seawolves when he rang a shot off the cross bar early in the second period.
The Seawolves second good scoring opportunity of the period came when Trey deGraaf found himself on the breakaway during the penalty kill but his shot went wide.
Tristan Keck scored his fourth goal of the season for UNO when he beat UAA goalie Brody Claeys stick side at 10:56 of the third period. Claeys finished with 30 saves.
Dean Stewart scored less than three minutes later when he fired a shot through traffic from the blueline.
The Mavericks final goal was of the empty net variety at 17:38.
Omaha finished with a 33-20 edge in shots and both teams were 0-for-3 on the powerplay.
The two teams will face off again Monday at 9 am.
