ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Alaska Anchorage and Michigan Tech skated to a 3-3 tie at Sullivan Arena Saturday. The Seawolves picked up the extra point for the second straight night thanks to a goal by Trey deGraaf in the second overtime.
Alex Gillies gave the Huskies an early lead when he tipped a shot by Mitch Reinke past Olivier Mantha.
The Seawolves responded with a pair of goals in the period to take a 2-1 lead.
Eric Sinclair scored his first career goal at 5:53 thanks to assists from Nathan Renouf and Trey deGraaf.
Nathan Renouf tallied his second assist of the night when he assisted on his brother Jonah’s first goal of the season at 17:21.
Jeremiah Luedtke scored the lone goal in the second period to push UAA’s lead to 3-0. He buried a rebound on the back post at 15:14 of the period. Austin Azurdia tallied an assist on the goal for his team-leading 11th point of the season and extended his scoring streak to a team-high five games. Tanner Johnson also assisted on the goal.
Dane Birks scored a power-play goal at 5:00 of the third and then assisted on Alex Smith’s goal at 16:10 to tie the game at 3.
Trey deGraaf scored the extra point with a goal in 3-on-3 action in the second period.
MTU finished with a 40-24 edge in shots.
Olivier Mantha finished with 37 saves for the Seawolves.
UAA was 0-5 on the man-advantage and MTU was 1-5.
The tie was the 16th in the all-time series between the schools which now stands at 32-33-16.
Alaska Anchorage (1-7-4, 1-2-3) will have next week off before playing at Ferris State Dec. 1-2.
