ANCHORAGE - Four goals in the first and third periods lifted the Minnesota State Mavericks over the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves, 8-2 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game on Friday evening in front of 2,732 fans at the Arena Sullivan.

The Seawolves (4-9-0, 2-7-0 WCHA) allowed three unanswered goals in the first period, before senior forward Kevin Clark put the Seawolves on the board at 18:03 of the period. Clark, who leads UAA with six goals this season, was assisted by junior forward Nick Haddad.

The Mavericks (4-6-1, 2-6-1) added their fourth goal of the period with 34.3 second remaining, for a 4-1 lead going into the first intermission

Following the break senior goaltender Jon Olthuis was removed from the net, giving-way to freshman net-minder Dusan Sidor - his first collegiate game.

Haddad brought the Seawovles within two goals with his third strike of the season at 13:18 of the second period. Sophomore forward Curtis Leinweber and junior forward Sean Wiles - fresh from an injury - assisted on the play.

Minnesota State added four more unanswered goals in the third period for the 8-2 final. Scoring four of MSU’s goals and an assist was senior forward Jerad Stewart – including the game-winner on the lone power play tally of the night.

Olthuis received the loss, dropping his record to 2-5-0 this season. Olthuis made nine saves, while Sidor faced a combined 26 shots in the second and third periods for 22 saves. The Mavericks peppered UAA with 39 shots overall, including 17 shots in the third. UAA was held to 16 shots in the game.
