Seawolves take flight for series in Wisconsin

THIS WEEK: The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves will aim for their first conference road win of the season when they travel to Madison, Wis., to play the Wisconsin Badgers in a WCHA series on Nov. 13-14. The puck is scheduled to drop at 4:07 p.m. AST on both nights.

THE SERIES - UAA vs. WISCONSIN
Overall: UW leads 42-13-9 At UW: UW leads 24-7-3
Last Meeting:  Jan. 10, 2009 (UW won 6-3) Streak: UW 4

NOTES: The Seawolves and Badgers met for two WCHA series last season, with Wisconsin sweeping both ... UW swept the first series on Dec. 5-6 (2-3, 2-7) at the Kohl Center, before sweeping at the Sullivan on Jan. 9-10 (2-3, 3-6) ... the Badgers were the only league team to sweep the Seawolves last season ... in the last 10 meetings UW leads 8-1-1 ... the lone Seawolf win was accomplished on Nov. 4, 2006 at the Sully ... the last Seawolf road win was on March 12, 2005 in the first round of the WCHA playoffs ... the Badgers have won the last seven games played in the series at Madison ... the series started in 1990 ... this is the only scheduled meeting between the two teams.


SCOUTING WISCONSIN: The Badgers host UAA at the end of a three-week homestand ... UW enters the series with UAA after splitting the series with Minnesota on Nov. 6-7 ... the Badgers defeated the Gophers 4-2 on Friday before falling  5-2 on Saturday ... UW is currently tied for 6th with St. Cloud State in the WCHA league standings with 5 points - one position ahead of UAA  ... in addition to the win against UM, the Badgers earned points over Minnesota State (6-0) and a tie with Colorado College (1-1 ot) ... leading UW offensively is junior D Brendan Smith (2-7-9) and senior F Blake Geoffrion (5-2-7) ... between the pipes is junior G Brett Bennett (3-2-0, .903sa%, 2.01 gaa) and junior G Scott Gudmandson (1-1-1) - second in the conference in both save percentage (.938) and goals-against average (1.63).

SEAWOLVES UPSET NO. 2 DENVER: The Seawolves fell to the Denver Pioneers on Nov. 6, 3-2, before coming back and defeating DU, 7-3 on Saturday ... scoring for UAA on Friday night was junior F Sean Wiles and junior D Luka Vidmar ... on Saturday, six Seawolves found the back of the net, including a pair of goals from Wiles ... UAA posted three goals in the second and third period, to defeat the Pioneers at home for the first time since 2000 .. In addition to Wiles, the Seawolves received a multi-point game from four other skaters; freshman D Lee Baldwin, senior F Kevin Clark, junior F Tommy Grant and freshman F Daniel Naslund.

SEAWOLVES BITES: The Seawolves moved into eighth place in the WCHA standings with four points after winning their second conference game this past weekend ... UAA enters this weekend after splitting the series with then-No.2/3 Denver ... the seven goals on Nov. 7 were more than UAA had scored in the past five games ... on Friday night, the Pioneers gave the Seawolves their third straight loss, before UAA came back with a goal-filled game on Saturday night ... UAA defeated DU at home for the first time since Jan. 29, 2000 ... the Seawolves tallied their most goals under 5th-year head coach Dave Shyiak... the seven goals are the most for UAA since an 8-1 home win over Michigan Tech on Jan. 4, 2002 ... UAA equaled their most goals ever scored against DU  ... UAA posted a season-high 41 penalty minutes on 15 penalties ... the four-goal victory margin is a season-high and the most since a 6-2 win over UConn on Oct. 10, 2008 ... the Seawolves registered a season-high 3 goals in the third period and a season-high-tying two power-play goals in the game ... seven Seawolves have scored one power-play goal this season ... on Nov. 6, UAA held Denver to a season-low 5 shots in the first period ... the Seawolves won their first game of the season after allowing an opponent to score first (1-4-0) ... UAA is undefeated when leading after the second period (4-0-0), and winless when trailing after the second (0-6-0) ... the Seawolves are now 2-3-0 against ranked opponents this season, with all five games at home.

PLAYER NOTES: Doubling his career goal production was junior F Sean Wiles (3-1-4) who tallied three goals against the Pioneers ... the Beliot, Wis., native scored UAA's first goal of the night on Nov. 6, followed by a pair of goals on Saturday night-a career first ... Wiles became the third Seawolf this season to post a two-goal game ... helping UAA to its victory over Denver was freshman D Lee Baldwin (1-5-6), who added his first career goal and two assists on Saturday ... Baldwin joins junior F Tommy Grant as the only other Seawolf this season to register three points in a game ... Baldwin leads UAA defensemen in scoring and is third overall; he became the first rookie this season to record a power play goal ... in the conference, Baldwin holds ranks of t-6th for defensemen scoring and t-3rd for rookies ... breaking a three-game dry spell was senior F Kevin Clark (5-3-8), who posted a goal (power play) and an assist in the win ... after a four-game point streak to start the season, Clark went scoreless in the Minnesota series and on Friday night ... with the multi-point game against DU, Clark continues to lead UAA in goals and points ... career wise, Clark leads current Seawolves in points and assists ... the Winnipeg, Manitoba, native ranks 37th on the all-time list with 79 points and 41st in assists with 46 ... in the conference overall rankings, Clark is tied for 4th in goals scored ... also accomplishing a multi-point game vs. DU was Grant (2-6-8) with two helpers ... Grant's UAA-high six assists ranks him tied for 11th in the league ... also posting a multi-point game was freshman F Daniel Naslund (1-4-5) with his first collegiate goal and his fourth assist on the season ... tallying his first career point was freshman F Mitch Bruijsten (0-1-1), who added a helper on UAA's final goal of the evening - scored by senior F Josh Lunden ... Lunden added his third goal of the season and 42nd of his career - good for No. 22 on the all-time list ... in addition to Wiles and Naslund, two other Seawolves posted a multi-point weekend - junior D Luka Vidmar (1-2-3) scored his first goal of the season on Friday night and picked up an assist on Saturday, while junior D Kane Lafranchise (1-4-5) added one helper on both nights ... Lafranchise was whistled for kneeing, earning him a game disqualification on Saturday; he will be forced to sit out the first game of the Wisconsin series ... also scoring for UAA was sophomore F/D Curtis Leinweber, picking up the eventual game-winner ... in net on Friday was senior Jon Olthuis (.873 sa%, 3.26 gaa), who dropped his season record to 2-3-0, while junior G Bryce Christianson (.861 sa%, 3.80gaa) earned the win on Saturday for a 2-3-0 season record ... sitting out against Denver was sophomore F Jade Portwood due to an injury.

UP NEXT: The Seawolves will play host to Minnesota State at the Sullivan Arena on Nov. 20-21.
