MARQUETTE, MICH. – Northern Michigan recorded its third shutout of the season defeating Alaska Anchorage 3-0 Friday.

"I felt all in all we played a solid 60 mins," said head coach Matt Curley. "We did have a few mental lapses at times and that got us into some trouble. But all in all the effort was there, and we have another opportunity to get some points out of this weekend tomorrow."

NMU opened the scoring at 15:37 of the first period when Tony Bretzman’s shot deflected off a UAA player and past UAA goalie Brody Claeys.

Joseph Nardi found Vincent de Mey for a one-timer on the doorstep to extend the Wildcat’s lead to 2-0 at 9:18 of the second period.

Troy Loggins beat Claeys on the powerplay with a high shot on the stick side for the final Northern Michigan goal at 16:29 of the third.

NMU led 30-18 in shots and finished 1-for-4 on the powerplay. UAA was scoreless on its two powerplay opportunities.

Claeys (1-2-1) finished with 27 saves for UAA.

The two teams will square off again Saturday at 3:07 pm (AT).
