Alaska Anchorage will participate in a pair of exhibition competitions this week. New Bench Boss
Matt Curley will make his coaching debut this weekend for the Seawolves. The Madrid, N.Y., native was head coach for three years of the EC Red Bulls in Salzburg, Austria. An under-20 development team that competes against professional squads in the Alps Hockey League. Curley had other coaching stops at Bentley (NCAA), Indiana Ice (USHL) and the US National Development Program (USHL). 

New Assistant Coaches
Joining coach Curley are a pair of new assistant coaches, Mark Phalon and Matt Bruneteau. Phalon comes to UAA after a three-year stint at Hobart, and Bruneteau spent the last two seasons at Stevenson. 


Winning Streak
UAA enters the season on the second-longest winning streak in the nation at two games. Minnesota Duluth is riding the longest winning streak at four games. 


Transfers
UAA welcomes a trio of transfers with Div. I experience to this year’s squad. Senior forward Malcom Hayes joins the team after playing three seasons at the University of Maine. Junior defenseman Carmine Buono played two seasons at UMass, and goalie Kris Carlson spent one year at Providence. 


Offense
The Green and Gold return five players who tallied 10+ points in 2017-18. Nicolas Erb-Ekholm is the top-returning player in points (15) and is tied with Alec Butcher for most goals by a returner (eight).

The St. Rose, Manitoba, native appeared in seven games for the Seawolves in 2017-18 finishing with a .898 save percentage and a 3.34 goals against average. Freshman Kristian Stead returns after missing last season due to injury, and Kris Carlson comes to UAA after spending one season at Providence. 


In or Out
UAA is still awaiting a ruling from the NCAA regarding whether Alec Butcher will be granted a fifth season of eligibility to compete for the Seawolves in 2018-19. 

ScheduleIn addition to 28 WCHA games, UAA will play three non-conference series, all against former WCHA foes. UAA will host Colorado College in a Saturday/Sunday series to open the season Oct. 6-7. UAA will play road series at North Dakota Nov. 23-24 and Nebraska Omaha Dec. 29-31.

Looking Ahead
Alaska Anchorage will host Colorado College in the regular season-opener Saturday, Oct. 6 and the two teams will close the series Sunday.
