ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage head Nordic coach Andrew Kastning announced the National Letter of Intent signings of Alaskan locals Tracen Knopp and Jenna DiFolco on Tuesday.
“We are excited to announce the signings of these two, top-notch Alaskan skiers for the coming year,” said Kastning. “Both Tracen and Jenna represent the very best of their respective ski clubs and it is always a big recruiting goal to have the best Alaskans join our team.”
A multi-sport athlete from from Colony High School, Knopp (Alaska Nordic Racing) finished fifth in the final Besh Cup standings and was sixth in ASAA Skimeister standings as a senior. Knopp, who has a twin – Dawson – placed 27th in the 15K classic at the Junior Nationals, while being a member of the free technique relay that finished runner-up. Additionally, Knopp placed sixth in the ASAA State Championships for cross country running with a time of 16:10.
Meanwhile, DiFolco finished the Besh Cup season ranked No. 1 for the Under 18 women after winning 4-of-6 races from that series. DiFolco, who is also a multi-sport athlete, placed third in the ASAA Skimeister standings. The West Valley senior finished in the top-25 at the Junior Nationals in both individual distance races.
