Seven Seawolves earn GNAC academic honor

SPOKANE, Wash. - Seven Alaska Anchorage runners were among the 74 student-athletes named Thursday to the 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country All-Academic Team.

Leading the Seawolf pack was Anchorage native, sophomore Ariel Rolle (undeclared) with a perfect 4.00 GPA - one of two GNAC individuals to post a perfect GPA.

Receiving her third academic accolade was senior Laura Carr (2008 and 2006). Carr, a local of South Bend, Ind., posted a 3.69 as a fine arts, education and languages major.

Joining Rolle and Carr on the academic team were first time recipients; Alex West (civil engineering, So., 3.81, Soldtona, AK), Ruth Keino (nursing, So., 3.32, Kapcheno, Kenya), Natalie Pfeifer (biological sciences, So., 3.23, Ketchikan, AK) and Shoshana Keegan (art, So., 3.20, Anchorage, AK)

The lone male Seawolf to receive the honor was senior Paul Rottich (economics and finance, 3.22, Kapsabet, Kenya), who registered his second academic accolade.

To be eligible for the academic team, a runner must hold an overall grade point average of 3.20, be in at least their second full year of competition.
