LAS VEGAS – The University of Alaska Anchorage cross country teams returned to action and their winning ways sweeping both the individual and team titles at the UNLV Cross Country Invitational Saturday.
“We raced well today,” said head coach Michael Friess. “Our team did well handling the adversity of a delayed start, the heat and a challenging course.”
Zennah Jepchumba returned to competition finishing as the Seawolves third runner and sixth overall in 19:39.
Danielle McCormick completed the scoring for the women placing seventh (19:41).
“It was nice to have Zennah back,” said Friess. “Dani ran well today, and Ruth really challenged herself today.”
Both teams claimed the team titles against Div. I competition. The men posted a score of 18 points, followed by UC Riverside in second (58) and Fresno State in third (84). The women won with a score of 26, followed by the host UNLV (57) and Fresno State (62) in third.
UAA will compete at the Western Washington Invitational Oct. 20.
