ANCHORAGE – Seven former Alaska Anchorage student-athletes earned bachelors or postgraduate degrees Sunday during Fall Commencement ceremonies at the Alaska Airlines Center.

All seven graduates finished with cumulative grade-point averages above 3.00, including a 3.81 for men’s basketball player and natural sciences major Jackson McTier, and a 3.80 for early childhood education major and track & field standout Alexia Blalock. Additionally, former track & field athlete and Palmer native Gaynor Johansen earned a second degree as a physical therapy assistant, finishing with a 3.82 GPA.

Former all-conference women’s basketball player Jenna Buchanan – from Galena – earned her degree in early childhood education with a 3.68 GPA; former all-conference runner Michael Mendenhall finished with a 3.31 GPA in physical education; former track & field All-American Tevin Gladden – from Fairbanks (Lathrop HS) – finished with a 3.16 GPA in computer science and mathematics; and former all-conference runner Victor Samoei earned his degree in mechanical engineering with a 3.03 GPA.
