ON TAP: The Alaska Anchorage men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams will open the outdoor season at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational March 16-17.

2018 OUTLOOK: Alaska Anchorage’s two most recent national champions headline the Seawolves outdoor track and field teams ... Danielle McCormick won the most recent national title by winning the 800 at the NCAA Indoor Championships ... Caroline Kurgat, who won the cross country national title in 2017, will represent the Seawolves outdoors after redshirting the indoor season ... two members, Liam Lindsay and Nicholas Taylor, return from last year’s 4x400 relay that finished 4th (3:10.86) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships ... Vanessa Aniteye returns after placing 20th (56.20) in the 400 and is the only member returning from the 4x400 relay that placed 10th (3:43.33) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships ... UAA has two other student-athletes return that competed at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Danielle McCormick seventh in the 800 (2:08.72) and Mariah Burroughs 16th (10:46.70) in the steeplechase.

2018 NCAA INDOOR REVIEW: Danielle McCormick won the 800-meter national championship with a time of 2:07.79 ... the national championship was the first for McCormick and the first by a UAA woman in indoor track and field ... Danille McCormick joined Vanessa Aniteye, Yemi Knight and Tamara Perez on the distance medley relay that placed ninth (11:55.60) ... the women finished tied for 17th overall with 10 points ... the men’s 4x400 relay did not finish at the NCAA Championships.

BROKEN RECORDS: Alaska Anchorage set seven outdoor records (three men, four women) in 2017 ... David Sramek tied the pole vault record with a mark of 14-9 ... Tevin Gladden cleared 6-11 in the high jump for a new record, and Grant George threw a school record of 49-10.5 in the shot put ... the Seawolves set new records in both the 4x100 (46.37) and 4x400 (3:41.93) relays ... two of the four members of each relay return for UAA ... Danielle McCormick ran a school-record time of 2:07.60 in the 800, and Karolin Anders jumped 5-8.75 for a new high jump record.

RECORD HOLDERS RETURNING: UAA will have four current outdoor school record holders competing this spring -- Chris Brake (triple jump, 47-3.5), Liam Lindsay (4x400, 3:10.60), Nicholas Taylor 4x400, 3:10.60), Danielle McCormick (800, 2:07.60, 4x400, 3:41.93) and Vanessa Aniteye (4x100, 46.37, 4x400, 3:41.93).
