PORTLAND, Ore. – A record-setting 800-meter performance helped Alaska Anchorage junior Danielle McCormick earn GNAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, revealed Monday by the league office.
McCormick, from Soldotna and the 2018 NCAA Div. II indoor 800-meter champion, established a new UAA 800-meter record, Saturday at the Triton Invitational at the Triton Track & Field Stadium in San Diego, Calif. Her time of 2 minutes, 6. 17 seconds doubled as an NCAA automatic qualifier and helped her best a total of 68 DI and DII runners.
Her time is the third fastest in Div. II this season and sixth in GNAC outdoor history. McCormick improved upon her own outdoor school record (2:07.60), which she set last season at the same Triton Invite.
McCormick earned the same weekly league honor during the indoor season (Feb. 5-11) after setting UAA’s indoor 800-meter record, running 2:07.13. That time was the fourth fastest in nation and the third best in the GNAC record book.
