PORTLAND, Ore. – Alaska Anchorage senior sprinter Darrion Gray, of Dimond High School fame, was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week on Monday, after helping set two NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Boston University Last Chance Meet.
Gray was the third fastest Division II athlete in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.73 seconds on Sunday. He followed as the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that clocked 3 minutes, 13.02 seconds. The relay earned the second-fastest time in GNAC and program history – and tied for 10th in Division II this season.
Gray becomes the third Seawolf this season to be awarded a weekly conference honor. He joins Christopher Brake (Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, Jan. 8-14) and Danielle McCormick (Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, Feb. 5-11).
The Seawolves will compete again at the NCAA Div. II Indoor Track & Field Championships, Mar. 9-10 in Pittsburg, Kan. Provisional times that will advance to nationals will be unveiled Tuesday, Feb. 27.
