TAIWAN – The University of Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball team opened their foreign tour to Taiwan with a 73-51 win over Ryerson from Canada.
Hannah Wandersee led the Seawolves with a double-double thanks to game-highs in both points (19) and rebounds (11). The Kodiak, native excelled defensively blocking a game-high seven shots.
Tara Thompson also scored in double digits finishing with 14 points, including a game-high 12 points from behind the arc, and grabbed seven rebounds with five on the offensive end.
The Seawolves got out to a quick start leading 17-9 after the first quarter and led 30-21 at the half. UAA’s offense exploded in the third quarter outscoring RU 28-17.
The Seawolves dominated the glass pulling down 45 rebounds, including 17 on the offensive end. The Rams grabbed 23 boards, six offensively.
Marin Scotten led the Rams with 14 points, and Cara Tiemens finished with 10 points.
Both teams shot 42-percent from the field.
Alaska Anchorage will face Nagoya Gakulin of Japan Tuesday at 2:20 am (Alaska Time).
