ANCHORAGE – The Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team added its latest local talent Thursday as head coach Ryan McCarthy announced that East Anchorage High School's Tennae Voliva has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Seawolves.

A 6-foot forward, Voliva was a career 1,000-point scorer in her four varsity seasons, helping the T-birds to top-4 finishes as the ASAA Class 4A State Tournament her final two campaigns.

“We are extremely excited Tannae chose to represent her home city and state here at UAA,” McCarthy said. “She has great length and athleticism, and I really believe she has the potential to be a very high-level basketball player. What impresses me most about Tannae is her desire to be elite. Winning is important to her, and her willingness to be pushed to her max in her program has us excited to coach her. She is also a great student and will fit into our culture of academic success.”

As a senior in 2016-17, Voliva was a second-team all-state performer for the second straight season and a First Team All-Cook Inlet Conference honoree, leading the T-birds to a 12-2 league mark and runner-up finish for the second year in a row. At the ASAA State Tournament, she averaged 12.3 points on 52 percent shooting, 8.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.7 steals as East's third-place finish equaled its best since 2007.

Voliva joins Chugiak's Nicole Pinckney as the second local signee in this year's recruiting class and gives UAA four Alaskans on its 2017-18 roster, along with juniors Tara Thompson (Anchorage/Dimond) and Hannah Wandersee (Kodiak).

“The past five years we've been able to recruit some of the best student-athletes in the state of Alaska, all of whom have had a tremendous impact on our success,” added McCarthy, who has led the Seawolves to an NCAA Div. II-best 97-7 overall record and three straight Great Northwest Athletic Conference titles since 2014-15. “I feel Tannae – as well as Nicole – will add to that legacy.”

Voliva brings UAA's 2017 overall recruiting class to five players, joining fall signees Sala Langi (5-10, Fr., G/F, Pacifica, Calif./Oceana HS), Victoria Langi (5-6, Jr., G, Pacifica, Calif./Mercy Burlingame HS/Skyline College), Pinckney (5-5, Fr., G, Chugiak HS), and two-time JC All-American Sydni Stallworth (5-3, Jr., G, Tucson, Ariz./Palo Verde HS/Pima CC).
