LA MIRADA, Calif. – Alaska Anchorage senior Hannah Wandersee has been recognized as one of the top five players among the 36 teams in the NCAA Div. II West Region on Wednesday, earning a spot on the D2CCA Women’s Basketball All-West Region First Team.

The Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and two-time All-GNAC First Team selection joined Dominican’s Natalie Diaz, Azusa Pacific’s Savanna Hanson, Humboldt State’s Alexis Thrower and region player of the year Mikayla Williams of UC San Diego on the first team.

A 6-2 center from Kodiak, Alaska, Wandersee leads the nationally 8th-ranked Seawolves (28-2) with 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game, along with 87 percent free-throw shooting, as they prepare for their NCAA Tournament First Round game against Hawaii Pacific on Friday.

A second-team all-region pick in 2017-18, she ranks fifth in the GNAC in scoring and third in free-throw percentage, nearly on pace to set UAA’s single-season record. She owns 25 double-figure scoring efforts this season, rising to No. 9 on the Seawolves’ career scoring list (1,317 points) and No. 1 in victories (121) and games played (133).

UAA’s first-round NCAA contest can be seen live online at at 11 a.m. ADT Friday.
