ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The No. 2 University of Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team improved to 7-0 on the season after a 70-58 win over Central Washington in the GNAC opener for both schools Thursday.

The Seawolves forced nine turnovers and went on a 7-0 run midway through the first quarter to lead 20-12 at the end of the first quarter.

UAA out-scored CWU 20-10 in the paint in the first half to lead 42-29.

Hannah Wandersee, who finished with a game-high 17 points, made a lay-up at 9:31 of the fourth quarter to give UAA its largest lead of the game, 62-39. Wandersee drained eight baskets on the night, tying the mark for most by a Seawolf this season.

The Seawolves held on for the 12-point win despite being outscored 19-10 in the fourth.

Tara Thompson joined Wandersee as the second UAA player in double figures. The Anchorage, native shot 4-5 from the field, including 3-4 from behind the arc.

Kaelie Flores and Beverly Verduin combined for 25 points for CWU.

UAA shot 38-percent (27-71) from the field, and held CWU to 35-percent (20-57).

Both teams finished with 39 rebounds, but UAA led 20-14 in offensive rebounds, and 36-18 in points in the paint.

The Seawolves forced 24 turnovers leading to 22 points.  

Alaska Anchorage will host Northwest Nazarene Saturday at 7 pm.
