PORTLAND, Ore. – Coming off a pair of big performances in neutral-court victories, Alaska Anchorage junior Hannah Wandersee was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-Player of the Week for women’s basketball on Monday.
A 6-1 center from Kodiak, Wandersee led UAA in scoring both games as the 4th-ranked Seawolves won a rematch against 2017 NCAA First Round foe Hawaii Pacific, 82-74, and knocked off Cal State Los Angeles 77-50 at the Wildcat Crossover in Ellensburg, Wash.
Against HPU, she tallied a career-high 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting (1-2 3FG, 7-7 FT), while tying her career bests with 11 rebounds and four assists. In Saturday’s win over the Golden Eagles, she had 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, three rebounds and four more assists without a turnover. She also contributed to a defensive effort that held CSULA to 22 percent shooting over the final three quarters.
Wandersee shared this week’s honor with Montana State Billings senior guard Alisha Breen.
Wandersee and her teammates make their home debuts Friday and Saturday when they host the Seawolf Hoops Classic at the Alaska Airlines Center. Alaska Fairbanks opens the action at 3 p.m. against Western State of Colorado, followed by UAA vs. Holy Names at 5:15 p.m. The Alaska schools will switch opponents Saturday, with UAA tipping again at 5:15.
