PORTLAND, Ore. – Alaska Anchorage senior D.J. Ursery was honored as one of the top 12 players in the league Tuesday, earning Second Team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference honors as the GNAC announced its 2017-18 men’s basketball postseason awards.
A 6-4 guard, Ursery leads the Seawolves in scoring (11.6 points per game), rebounding (6.0 rpg) and steals (1.1 spg), helping his team to a 15-13 overall record and a tie for fourth in the final standings at 11-9.
The Los Angeles (Crespi HS) native has scored double figures 15 times and grabbed at least eight rebounds on eight occasions. A one-year transfer from Div. I University of the Pacific, he was twice named GNAC Player of the Week, including last week when he had 14 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and the game-winning jumper at Alaska Fairbanks to clinch a GNAC Tournament berth.
Western Oregon’s Tanner Omlid was voted the GNAC Player of the Year in balloting by the league’s 11 head coaches.
The Seawolves return to action Thursday in the GNAC Tournament quarterfinals at their own Alaska Airlines Center. UAA is the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 seed Seattle Pacific (16-11, 11-9) at 2:15 p.m.
