PORTLAND, Ore. – Following a pair of clutch performances in must-win road games, Alaska Anchorage senior D.J. Ursery was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

A 6-4 guard from Los Angeles (Crespi HS), Ursery totaled team highs of 30 points, 15 rebounds and five steals to lead the Seawolves to a 44-43 victory at Alaska Fairbanks on Tuesday and a 59-52 win at Montana State Billings on Saturday.

At UAF, the University of the Pacific transfer tallied his second double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, helping UAA set a program record for fewest points scored in a victory. He also grabbed three steals and delivered the game-winning jumper with one second remaining.

In Billings, Ursery scored a game-high 16 points, hitting all six of his free throws, along with five rebounds and two steals, while playing a team-high 36 minutes.

This marks the second weekly honor for Ursery, who also earned the award in late December.

With last week’s victories, UAA earned a 13th consecutive season with a winning overall record and an eighth straight year with a winning GNAC record (11-9). The Seawolves also claimed a spot in the GNAC Tournament for the eighth straight year, tying for fourth place in the final standings.

UAA will be the No. 5 seed and face No. 4 seed Seattle Pacific at 2:15 p.m. Thursday in the GNAC Tournament quarterfinals at the Alaska Airlines Center. Call 907-786-1562 or visit GoSeawolves.com or AlaskaAirlinesCenter.com for tickets.
