PORTLAND, Ore. – Featuring a virtually brand-new roster, the Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released by Tuesday by the league office.

The Seawolves – who went 21-8 overall and finished runner-up in the GNAC last season – received 90 points in the poll, voted upon by the conference’s 11 head coaches. Defending champion Western Washington earn the favorite’s role with seven first-place votes and 116 points, while 2015-16 champion Western Oregon was runner-up with three first-place votes and 108 points. Central Washington edged UAA for the No. 3 spot with 91 points and the final first-place tally.

Coming off back-to-back 21-win seasons, head coach Rusty Osborne’s revamped squad features 12 newcomers and just one returning player from last year’s team. Among the Seawolves’ four NCAA Div. I transfers, forward Jacob Lampkin (6-9/235, Bellevue, Wash./Univ. of the Pacific) and guard D.J. Ursery (6-4/190, Los Angeles/Univ. of the Pacific) were picked to the Preseason All-GNAC Team last week, while they will also get a boost from a pair of returning redshirts in senior guard Drew Peterson and junior forward Brian Pearson.

The Seawolves travel to Southern California this week for their first games of the season, facing Div. I UC Irvine in a Friday exhibition and playing NAIA program Antelope Valley in the regular-season opener Saturday in Lancaster, Calif. Both games start at 6 p.m. ADT.

UAA makes its home debut Nov. 10-11 when it hosts Chaminade, Hawaii Pacific and Alaska Fairbanks in the Alaska/Hawaii Challenge at the Alaska Airlines Center.
