INDIANAPOLIS (Mar. 1) – The Alaska Anchorage men’s basketball team remained at No. 9 on Wednesday as the NCAA released its final published version of the NCAA Div. II West Region rankings.

The Seawolves, 17-7 against D-II competition, are one of three Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams in the top 10, along with No. 2 Western Washington (22-5) and No. 10 Western Oregon (16-11).

Pacific West Conference program Cal Baptist (24-3) holds down the top spot again.

UAA finds itself in competition with Pac West club Dixie State (No. 7, 19-7) and California Collegiate Athletic Association squad Sonoma State (No. 8, 19-7) for the region’s final NCAA playoff berths, although the Seawolves would clinch an automatic bid by winning the GNAC Tournament this weekend.

The top five teams in the final rankings – along with the winners of the GNAC, CCAA and Pac West tournaments – will make the NCAAs, with the top seed generally earning the right to host. The announcement of the NCAA Tournament field will happen Sunday at 6 p.m. AST on ncaa.com.

The Seawolves are the No. 2 seed for the GNAC Tournament in Lacey, Wash., where they will play either Western Oregon or Montana State Billings on Friday at 4:15 p.m. AST. All games from the GNAC Tournament can be seen live on gnac.tv.
