ANCHORAGE -- Junior Vanessa Boyer slammed 15 kills and the 2018 Alaska Anchorage volleyball team got impressive debuts from several of its freshmen Saturday in a 25-23, 25-18, 25-21, 26-24 exhibition victory over the Seawolf Alumni at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Playing outside hitter for the first time in her career, Boyer (formerly Hayes) delivered a .306 attack percentage, while freshman middle blocker Eve Stephens added nine kills on .300 hitting and four total blocks.

The alumni squad – which featured four former Great Northwest Athletic Conference Players of the Year – was led by 11 kills and seven digs from former All-American Julia Mackey (2012-15). Setter Morgan Hooe (2013-16) finished with 15 assists, 16 digs, three aces and five kills on .400 hitting, and right-side hitter Anais Vargas (2016-17) had eight kills and seven digs.

Middle blocker Tara Melton added eight kills for the current Seawolves, and fellow senior Taylor Noga made a team-high 19 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Jalisa Ingram had a match-high six blocks, including three in the third set, and sophomore setter Casey Davenport tallied 23 assists and 14 digs.

In addition to Stephens, fellow true freshmen Ellen Floyd (23 assists, two aces, five digs) and Hannah Pembroke (5 kills, .400 attack pct.) premiered with solid outings.

The Seawolves begin the regular season Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host Western New Mexico in the first match of the UAA Invitational at the Alaska Airlines Center.
