MONMOUTH, ORE. – Vanessa Hayes recorded career highs for the second straight match to lead the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team to a 3-1 win at Western Oregon Saturday.

Hayes, who was playing in front of her hometown crowd, set career highs in both kills (13) and digs (6) and finished with six block assists, one shy of her career high.

Leah Swiss recorded her ninth double-double of the season and the 30th of her career thanks to 13 kills and 14 digs.

Keala Kaio-Perez tallied a team-high 21 digs, and Casey Davenport contributed 38 assists.

“This was a gritty win for us tonight against a team that is much better than its record shows,” said head coach Chris Green. “It was great to see Vanessa have a couple breakout performances this week, and we think she can build on this, but it is even more encouraging to see the way we are coming together and showing a lot of fight as a team.”

UAA improves to 12-7 overall and 7-3 halfway through GNAC play.

Western Oregon held Alaska Anchorage to an attack percentage of .091, its lowest of the match, to win the first set 25-19.
