PORTLAND, Ore. – Alaska Anchorage senior Keala Kaio-Perez was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping the nationally ranked Seawolves to a pair of home victories last week.

The 5-7 libero from Waimanalo, Hawaii (Kailua HS) led the Seawolves with 54 total digs – 7.71 per set – as then-No. 20 UAA (9-4, 4-0 GNAC) beat Saint Martin’s 25-7, 25-19, 27-25 on Thursday and remained unbeaten in league play with a 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22 win over longtime rival Seattle Pacific on Saturday.

In Thursday’s victory, the former Western Nebraska Community College transfer had her most digs in 3-set match with 25, along with four aces and no service errors, while against SPU her 29 digs were just three shy of her career high.

Kaio-Perez and the two-time defending GNAC champion Seawolves return to the road this week to face a pair of other playoff contenders, traveling to No. 12 Northwest Nazarene (12-0, 4-0) on Thursday (5 p.m. ADT) and Central Washington (8-4, 3-1) on Saturday (6 p.m. ADT).
