ANCHORAGE - Only two days remain to register for the 2012 Mayor's Marathon & Half-Marathon, presented by ConocoPhillips. While online registration is now complete, however last-minute registration is available at the marathon Expo at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel, Thursday, June 21 from 3-8 p.m., and Friday, June 22 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
The 39th annual Mayor's races are scheduled for June 23. No race-day registration or race-packet pickups will be available.
The marathon (26.2 miles) and half-marathon (13.1 miles) events are sanctioned by USA Track and Field, with the top Alaskan male and female marathon finishers earning two tickets on Alaska Airlines. In addition to the marathon and half-marathon, three other individual events are offered - a 26.2-mile marathon walk, 5-miler and 1.6-mile Youth Cup. Also back is the popular marathon relay, featuring four-member teams running 6.5-mile legs.
As of Wednesday, a total of 3,764 runners had registered for the individual races, plus 47 relays teams. There are currently 1,070 marathoners, 2,000 half-marathoners, 627 five-milers and 67 youth racers, representing 48 states and 16 countries.
There will also be eight different health causes - the Alaska Correctional Ministries, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Society, American Heart Association, City of Hope, Marathons for Missions, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training, and the Neurofibromatosis Foundation - represented at the event.
