WOODLAND, Calif. – Alaska Anchorage senior Shakea Sanders earned her sixth career all-league honor to lead a contingent of six Seawolves on the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Conference Team, announced this week by the league office.
The All-MPSF team is decided by the top regional qualifying scores (RQS) among the conference’s gymnasts.
Sanders, from Federal Way, Wash., recorded the MPSF’s sixth-best RQS on vault at 9.695. It was her fourth career honor on vault, along with floor exercise accolades her first two seasons.
Sophomore Melissa Doucette (Rochester, N.H.) and freshman Sariaye Jensen (Henderson, Nev.) both made all-conference on a pair of events. Doucette posted the league’s fifth-highest RQS on vault (9.720) and was eighth on floor exercise (9.635), while Jensen placed sixth on uneven bars (9.690) and seventh in the all-around (37.340).
Freshman Morgan Cook (Hot Springs, Ark.) was the league’s No. 6 all-around performer with a 37.435 final RQS. Cook is also the No. 6 individual scorer among non-qualifying teams in the West Region, making her the all-around alternate for the upcoming NCAA Div. I West Regional Championships, Apr. 7 in Seattle.
Sophomore Emily Petersen (Indianapolis) and senior Kathleen Mantell (Antioch, Calif.) also earned their first career all-league awards. Petersen – who broke UAA’s single-season bars average record at 9.679 – was the No. 5 bars performer in the league with a 9.695 RQS, while Mantell made it on balance beam (9.525).
