ANCHORAGE – The University of Alaska Anchorage has unveiled the pairings for the 2013 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout and announced updates to both the men’s and women’s fields,  UAA athletic director Dr. Steve Cobb announced Thursday.

This year’s Shootout is scheduled for Nov. 26-30 at Sullivan Arena, starting with women’s first-round action on Tuesday night and concluding with the men’s championship on Saturday. Host UAA will open against UC Riverside on the women’s side and Texas Christian on the men’s to begin their respective tournaments.

Nicholls State rounds out the four-team women’s field, joining Georgetown, UC Riverside and six-time champion Alaska Anchorage. Meanwhile, there has been a change in the eight-team men’s field, with Green Bay replacing Iowa.

Georgetown and Nicholls State will kick off the women’s action at 6 p.m. Tuesday, followed by UCR against UAA.

The 36th annual men’s Shootout tips off Wednesday night with a first-round game between Indiana State and Tulsa, followed by the Seawolves against TCU of the Big 12 Conference. Thanksgiving evening features Pepperdine against Green Bay in the early game, while Harvard – fresh off its first-ever NCAA victory – faces another 2012-13 conference champion, Denver, in the late contest. Tip-off times and television coverage will be announced later.

Five of this year’s men’s teams went to postseason play this March, including an NCAA 3rd Round appearance for Harvard and an NIT trip for Indiana State. Georgetown’s visit marks the fourth time in five women’s Shootouts that a member of the powerful Big East Conference will come north.

The Shootout is the longest-running regular-season college basketball tournament in the nation, taking place every Thanksgiving in Anchorage since 1978.
