WOODLAND, Calif. - Four Alaska Anchorage gymnasts have been honored for their classroom success as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced its 2012 Women's Gymnastics All-Academic Team.

Sophomore Emily Petersen, a management major from Indianapolis, led the way for UAA with a 3.87 overall grade-point average - fourth-best among the 18 honorees. Jackie Thomas (Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned her second career honor with a 3.57 GPA in biological sciences, while fellow senior Kathleen Mantell (Antioch, Calif.) made it for the second straight year with a 3.26 in psychology.

Sophomore Melissa Doucette (Rochester, N.H.) joined Petersen as a first-time honoree with a 3.45 in physical education.

Seattle Pacific produced a league-high nine all-academic picks, followed by UAA and UC Davis (4 each) and Air Force (1).

To be eligible, a student-athlete must carry a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA, be in at least her second season, and compete in at least 50 percent of meets.
