ANCHORAGE – Alaska Anchorage volleyball head coach Chris Green announced his team’s 2012 schedule on Thursday, including the return of the program’s own UAA Invitational tournament.
The Seawolves, coming off an 18-9 season and their third straight NCAA Tournament berth, will play 13 regular-season home matches next season, beginning with the 16th edition of their annual tourney, Sept. 7-8. Visiting for the 2012 UAA Invite will be West Regional foe Dixie State (Utah), along with former league rival Western New Mexico and fellow 2011 NCAA qualifier Adelphi (N.Y.). After being played as non-tournament format in 2010 and canceled last year due to NCAA scheduling restrictions, the Invitational will again feature a round-robin format, followed by consolation and championship matches.
Prior to that, the Seawolves open Aug. 25 with their annual home exhibition contest against an alumni squad. The regular season then starts with a trip to Seaside, Calif., for the Cal State Monterey Bay Invitational, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, where UAA will take on Dominican (N.Y.), Minnesota State and West Region rivals San Francisco State and CSUMB.
The Great Northwest Athletic Conference season begins with a home match against Central Washington on Oct. 13 and concludes on Nov. 17 against CWU in Ellensburg. Other key league home contests include Sept. 29 vs. Alaska Fairbanks, Oct. 6 vs. Western Washington, and Nov. 10 against defending GNAC champ Seattle Pacific in the Seawolves’ home finale.
The NCAA West Regional Championships are slated for Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at a site to be determined.
