MONMOUTH, Ore. - Highlighted by two individual titles apiece by junior Micah Chelimo and Grace Morgan, the Alaska Anchorage women's track & field team finished second, while the men's squad was third at the 2012 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at McArthur Stadium.

The UAA women's team, which furnished five of the top seven individual point totals, posted a program-best second place showing with 183 points, while the men's team, led by the Most Outstanding Male Performer Chelimo, finished third with 123 points. Seattle Pacific came away victorious on the women's side by five points with 188, while Western Washington claimed the men's crown with 205 points.

Combined with two titles from Friday, the Seawolves set a program-best 12 titles over the two-day haul. Overall, the Seawolves claimed 26 all-conference certificates and posted five school records. The Seawolves had produced nine titles during the 2011, 2010 and 2008 seasons.

Chelimo, collecting UAA's second straight Most Outstanding Male Performer honor, raced to victories in the 5,000 meters and 1500 meters for a combined 28 points - including a runner-up performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday. A local of Kapkoi, Kenya, Chelimo successfully defended his title in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14 minutes, 43.44 seconds after winning the 1500 meters at 3:50.09.

A local of Salt Spring Island, B.C., Morgan wrapped up a fruitful rookie campaign with titles in the 100 and 200 meters. Morgan registered a NCAA provisional time in the 100 meters at 11.91, improving upon the UAA record she had just set on Friday. Morgan, who also improved upon her UAA record in the 200 meters with a new time of 24.61, just missed the GNAC record in the 100 meters by .01 seconds.

Joining Chelimo and Morgan with two individual titles was sophomore Susan Tanui. The Eldoret, Kenya, local won the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:31.67. Tanui had won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a meet-record time of 10:24.44 on Friday. The GNAC-record holder in the steeplechase, Tanui also finished runner-up in the 1500 meters (4:32.83).

Setting a UAA record in the women's 100-meter hurdles was sophomore Haleigh Lloyd. Lloyd, from Ladysmith, B.C., broke her record with a winning time of 14.23 - the third-fastest time in GNAC history. Lloyd also finished fourth in both the 400 meters and 400-meter hurdles.

Defending his 400-meter hurdle crown from a year ago was senior Shaun Ward. A local of Eagle River, Ward won the event with a time of 53.35. Ward was also a member of the men's 4x400-meter relay that won with a time of 3:15.03. Joining Ward on the squad was freshmen Elliott Bauer and Nicholas Blackburn and junior Ethan Hewitt.

Another product of Eagle River, Hewitt just missed breaking his own GNAC record in the 400 meters with a winning and NCAA provisional time of 47.55. Hewitt set the league record last season at 47.51.

Winning the men's javelin was freshman Cody Parker. A local of Comox, B.C., Parker produced a winning toss of 215-00.5.

Other all-conference honors went to seniors Alfred Kangogo (1500m, 5K), Miriam Kipng'eno (5K) and Micah Johnson (pole vault), junior Ruth Keino (5K), sophomore Ivy O'Guinn (1500m), and freshman Dylan Anthony (5K).

Both of the women's relay teams finished runner-up, while the men's 4x100-meter relay took third. Breaking the women's 4x100-meter relay record with a time of 47.67 were seniors Dianne Chong and Kelsea Johnson, Morgan and Lloyd. The foursome held the previous record of 48.00.

Qualified individuals will have the next weekend off before heading to Pueblo, Colo., for the 2012 NCAA Div. II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 24-26.
