SPOKANE, Wash. – Junior Alfred Kangogo was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week Monday following his performance at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday at Eagle Rock, Calif.

Kangogo, from Eldoret, Kenya, broke the league record in the 1500 meters when he was clocked at three minutes, 44.67 seconds – more than 2 ½ second fasters than the previous record of 3:47.21, held by Western Washington’s Anthony Tomsich. The time currently places him third among Division II competitors.

Kangogo joins Ethan Hewitt and Ruth Keino, who were honored April 18, senior David Registe – with two honors on April 4 and March 7, junior Miriam Kipng’eno (March 28) and freshmen Ivy O’Guinn (March 14) and Haleigh Lloyd (March 7).

Melissa Peaslee of Seattle Pacific claimed the weekly honor of the women’s side.

The Seawolves will compete at the conference championships on May 13-14 in Monmouth, Ore.
