ANCHORAGE – Junior forward Kristen Simon had 18 points and 11 rebounds to power a big first-half run for Southern California, leading the Women of Troy to a 89-67 victory over Missouri State on Tuesday in the first round of the GCI Great Alaska Shootout women’s basketball tournament at the Alaska Airlines Center.

USC (3-1) also got 15 points and 11 assists from reserve guard Minyon Moore as the Pac-12 squad opened a 23-10 lead after one quarter and never looked back.

The Lady Bears (1-3) got a game-high 21 points from guard Liza Fruendt but was outshot 55 percent to 30 percent in their first trip to the tournament.

With their victory, the Women of Troy advance to Wednesday’s 4:30 p.m. AST title game against the winner of the other first-round contest between Portland and host Alaska Anchorage.
