ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Alaska Anchorage junior Hannah Wandersee has been recognized as one of the top 10 women’s basketball players in the NCAA Div. II West Region, earning D2CCA Second Team All-Region honors on Monday.

A 6-2 center from Kodiak, Wandersee leads the nationally 13th-ranked Seawolves in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (6.3 rpg), blocks (league-best 1.5 bpg) and field-goal percentage (.529), ranking among the league’s top eight in each category.

The unanimous First Team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection has helped the Seawolves (27-4) earn a share of their fourth consecutive league title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament’s ‘Sweet 16.’ UAA will face Montana State Billings and D2CCA Region Player of the Year Alisha Breen in tonight’s regional title game at 6 p.m. ADT in Azusa, Calif.

Since Jan. 27, Wandersee has averaged 17.5 points per contest, boosted by a career-high 32 points in an 86-78 road win over Western Oregon. She has six 20-plus scoring efforts on the season, including 27 points in a 78-68 home win over GNAC co-champion Northwest Nazarene.

Along with her all-region and all-conference honors, Wandersee has picked up a handful of other awards this year, including Most Outstanding Player of the Seawolf Hoops Classic, GCI Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team, and the season’s first GNAC Player of the Week honor.

The D2CCA all-region teams are chosen by a vote of the region’s sports information directors. The West Region includes three conferences and 38 women’s basketball programs.
