ANCHORAGE – University of Alaska Anchorage athletic director Dr. Steve Cobb announced Wednesday that former Seawolf hockey star Derek Donald has joined the UAA Athletic Department as its assistant director of marketing and promotions.

A member of the school’s athletic hall of fame, Donald will be charged with enhancing the visibility of Seawolf Athletics and elevating awareness of Seawolf Hockey.

“I’m thrilled and excited to have the opportunity to be back in the UAA program and bring the Seawolves back to the forefront of visibility in the Anchorage community,” Donald said. “I know there are some great sports fans here, and I’m excited about getting down to the grassroots level as we work to energize our supporters.”

Donald played forward for the Seawolves from 1988-92, leading the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances before going on to a professional playing career. From 1997 until 2002, he served in a general manager role for the Alaska Aces, where he helped to solidify the franchise’s place in the ECHL.

“Derek is uniquely qualified for this position because of his background in business, sports, and having been a student-athlete at UAA,” Dr. Cobb said. “Furthermore, he has outstanding character and a terrific reputation within the Anchorage community.”
