PORTLAND, Ore. – A pair of Alaska Anchorage players were named Wednesday to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s Preseason All-Conference Volleyball Team, with senior Chrisalyn Johnson and sophomore Casey Davenport earning the first individual honors of the 2018 season.

A 5-9 outside hitter, Johnson was one of four unanimous selections in voting by the league’s 11 head coaches. The local Dimond High School product was an honorable mention All-GNAC performer in 2017, ranking 12th in the league in both kills (3.05) and points (3.55) per set. She posted double-doubles in 11 of the last 15 matches for UAA’s 19-11 squad, capturing the AVCA Div. II National Player of the Week award for her efforts in home wins over nationally ranked Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington.

Davenport, a 5-6 setter, is the reigning GNAC Freshman of the Year and one of three sophomores named to the 2018 preseason squad. The Auburn, Wash. (Mountainview HS) product took over as UAA’s starting setter midway through her rookie season, averaging 10.06 assists, 0.94 kills and 3.34 digs per set over the last 15 matches and helping the Seawolves capture the program’s fifth straight NCAA Tournament berth.

Western Washington senior outside hitter Abby Phelps was tabbed the 2018 GNAC Preseason Player of the Year.

UAA makes its season premiere Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center with a 7 p.m. exhibition match against the Seawolf Alumni. Admission is free.
