INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Alaska Anchorage volleyball team sits No. 5 in the initial Division II West Region rankings, released Wednesday by the NCAA.

With a 17-8 overall record, the Seawolves are one of four Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams currently in position to make the eight-team NCAA Regional playoff field in December. Joining UAA in the top eight are No. 6 Western Washington (20-3), No. 7 Central Washington (12-9) and No. 8 Northwest Nazarene (13-6).

UAA leads the GNAC by one-half match over Western Washington in the race for the league’s automatic NCAA berth with five matches remaining in the regular season.

UC San Diego (20-3), BYU-Hawaii (20-1) and Cal State San Bernardino (18-5) – all non-conference opponents of UAA – hold down the top three spots, with Sonoma State sitting fourth. Cal State L.A. and Cal Baptist are ninth and 10th, respectively.

Coming off a road sweep of Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon, the Seawolves return to the Wells Fargo Sports Complex this week to host in-state rival Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday at 7 p.m.
