ROAD RECOVERY: The Seawolves got back to winning ways with a sweep of Saint Martin’s and a 4-set win over Western Oregon on the road last week, improving to 7-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference road matches … at SMU on Thursday, the Seawolves got 15 kils and 10 digs from So. OH Katelynn Zanders, plus 18 digs from Jr. L Quinn Barker to pull away for a 25-21, 25-14, 25-20 victory … Sr. MB Jodi Huddleston blasted 7 kills on .583 hitting, while Sr. S Siobhan Johansen finished with 25 assists and 7 digs, helping UAA beat SMU for the 12th straight time … on Saturday in Monmouth, UAA recovered from a late first-set collapse to avoid the upset, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20, getting 14 kills and a career-high 16 digs from Zanders … Pottle delivered her third double-double as a Seawolf with 10 kills and a career-high-tying 17 digs, and So. RS Caitlin McInerney delivered career-bests of 10 kills, .350 att%, 4 assists and 4 digs … Fr. MB Erin Braun had 5 kills and a team-high 4 block assists, earning the set-point kill in the third and match point in the fourth … it was UAA’s first win in Monmouth and first series sweep of WOU since 2009.

LAST TIME VS UAF: The Seawolves extended their winning streak to seven with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-10 road blanking of Alaska Fairbanks at the Patty Center on Oct. 12 … So. RS Julia Mackey had 12 kills on .688 hitting and 4 blocks assists, while So. OH Katelynn Zanders finished with 9 kills and 13 digs as UAA broke the GNAC record for hitting percentage in a league match at .520 … UAA hit .619 in the first set and .520 in the third, committing only four attack errors in 75 attempts … five different Seawolves tallied at least four kills on plus-.375 hitting, with Mackey, Zanders, Fr. MB Erin Braun (7 kills, .778), Jr. OH Brooke Pottle (7 kills, .375) and Sr. MB Jodi Huddleston (4 kills, .667) accounting for 39 of their team’s 43 kills … the .520 overall attack percentage broke the old record of .473 in a league encounter, set by Seattle Pacific against Saint Martin’s on Nov. 1, 2012 … it was also the Seawolves’ best attack percentage this century and came within striking distance of the school record of .534, set against Regis in 1982 … Sr. S Siobhan Johansen accounted for 23 assists and 2 aces, while Fr. S Morgan Hooe added 13 assists … the Seawolves outblocked UAF 8-2 thanks to 5 block assists by Huddleston and 4 apiece for Mackey and Jr. RS Maureen Sabado … a Fairbanks native (West Valley HS), Mackey ripped her 12 kills on just 16 attacks, joining Zanders and Braun with career-high attack percentages.

TEAM NOTES: UAA received votes for the sixth straight week in the AVCA Div. II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, checking in at ‘No. 36’ with six tallies … UAA’s 9-0 start to GNAC play was its best since the league’s founding in 2001 and matched the 6th-longest win streak in program history … the Seawolves lead the league in aces (1.56 ace/set) and rank No. 2 in the GNAC in three of the six major stats categories — attack percentage (.220), assists per set (12.36) and kills per set (13.09) … in the NCAA Div. II national stats, UAA is 33rd in blocks per set (2.26), 41st in assists, 48th in kills and 50th in attack pct. … UAA is 45-10 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex since 2009 … UAA’s attack percentages of .520 at UAF and .437 against MSUB marked the sixth and seventh times this century a UAA team topped the .400 mark, with the UAF match ranking just behind the school-record of .534 (vs. Regis, 1982)… UAA’s 72 kills, 70 assists and .270 att% in 5 sets against Cal Poly Pomona on Sept. 14 remain GNAC-bests for 2013 … the 3-2 win over Western Washington improved the Seawolves to 9-24 against ranked opponents under Green; prior to Green’s arrival in 2008, UAA had lost 32 straight matches to ranked foes.

’WOLF BITES: Before suffering an injury in late October, So. RS Julia Mackey (3.23 kps, .277 att%) was one of only two GNAC players averaging at least 3.0 kills and .250 hitting … during UAA’s 9-match win streak, Mackey averaged 3.53 kps on .348 hitting, with double-digit kills in every contest … the Fairbanks (West Valley HS) native hit .520 or better in three of her last eight matches, including a career-high .688 at UAF … on UAA’s career lists, Mackey currently ranks No. 7 in both kills per set (3.17) and attack pct. (.262) … one spot ahead of Mackey at No. 6 in career kills average (3.24 kps) is So. OH Katelynn Zanders … Zanders has posted double-digit kills in 16 of the last 20 matches — including a UAA season-high 22 in the win at Western Washington — and is riding a current streak of five straight double-doubles … in the GNAC stats, the South Anchorage HS product is 6th in kills per set (3.36), 20th in attack pct. (.224), 16th in digs per set (2.81) and 5th in aces per set (0.32) … Zanders also leads UAA with 10 double-doubles overall … Sr. S/DS Siobhan Johansen has moved into UAA’s career top 20 on six  lists — assists (9th, 1,562), assists/set (12th, 4.12), digs (16th, 918), sets played (15th, 379), matches played (17th, 105) and total aces (18th, 87); this week she needs 21 assists, three aces and two digs to move up one spot on those respective lists … the Palmer (Colony HS) product has played in nearly every set of her career, playing setter, DS and libero … with current GNAC ranks of 8th in assists (6.85) and 2nd in aces (0.38), Johansen is splitting time at setter with Fr. S Morgan Hooe (4.32 assts/set) … Hooe is coming off another career-high last week as the South Anchorage HS product served 3 aces in the sweep at Saint Martin’s … Sr. MB Jodi Huddleston is No. 3 in the GNAC with 1.23 bps and ranks among the top 20 nationally … the Nebraskan is also 10th in the league with her .268 attack pct. … Huddleston’s 9 total blocks Sept. 9 vs Colorado Christian remain the most by a GNAC player in a 3-setter this year … Jr. OH Brooke Pottle ranks third on the team in both kills (2.14 kps) and digs (2.53 dps), tying her career-high for the third time with 17 digs Saturday at Western Oregon … the transfer from Glendale (Ariz.) College had her fourth double-digit kills performance with 10 at WOU, along with her third double-double … Pottle — who played at Div. I Air Force as a freshman — also has 10 matches with double-digit digs … another JC transfer, Jr. L Quinn Barker has taken over on the back row, ranking 4th in the GNAC and on UAA’s all-time single-season list with 4.60 digs per set … Barker has topped the 20-dig plateau eight times so far, and she was an all-tournament selection at both the UCSD and SpringHill Suites invitationals … Fr. MB Erin Braun gives the Seawolves three players in the top 10 of the GNAC’s attack pct. rankings, currently checking in 3rd with a .332 mark … the Southern Californian also ranks 13th in blocking (0.92 bps) … Jr. RS Maureen Sabado has delivered at least three kills in every match this season, including a career-high-tying 10 on .688 hitting in the road sweep of Simon Fraser.
