SCOUTING THE WILDCATS, CRUSADERS: Nationally ranked until this week, Central Washington snapped a 3-game losing streak with Saturday’s 3-0 road win over Saint Martin’s … the Wildcats, who have wins over two ranked teams, including then-No. 14 CSU San Bernardino, are led by So. OH/MB Linden Firethorne (3.32 kps, .245 att%), So. S Catie Fry (11.03 aps) and Jr. L Kaely Kight (5.77 dps) … Northwest Nazarene extended to a 5-match win streak and joined UAA as the only 2-0 teams in the GNAC by erasing a 2-set deficit on Saturday at Western Oregon … the Crusaders, who have not lost since Sept. 13, are led by Jr. MB Andrea Terpstra (3.86 kps, .355 att%, 1.50 bps), So. OH Elayna Rice (3.50 kps, .156 att%, 3.39 dps) and Jr. S Michelle Terpstra (10.29 aps, 1.29 kps).

SWEET START: The Seawolves got the Great Northwest Athletic Conference schedule off to a perfect start with home wins over Seattle Pacific (25-23, 23-25, 25-17, 25-23) on Sept. 19 and Montana State Billings (25-22, 25-15, 25-8) on Sept. 21 … on Thursday, So. RS Julia Mackey ripped 13 kills and Jr. OH Brooke Pottle finished a wild rally on match point with her 9th kill, helping UAA repel an late SPU charge … the Seawolves also got 11 kills from So. OH Katelynn Zanders, 17 digs from Jr. L Quinn Barker, and 24 assists, 10 digs from Sr. S Siobhan Johansen … Fr. S Morgan Hooe had 17 assists — including a bicycle-kick assist on match point — and a career-high 16 digs … on Saturday, Mackey and Zanders combined for 25 kills to lead a record-setting hitting effort against the Yellowjackets … the Seawolves also got 24 assists, 3 aces and 2 kills from Johansen to post the program’s best attack percentage in 13 years of GNAC play, hitting .437 … Mackey finished with 13 kills and no attack errors on 20 attempts and Zanders posted 12-1-20 numbers as they recorded respective career-high percentages of .650 and .550 … the duo was among five Seawolves with at least four kills on plus-.500 hitting as they were joined by So. OH Sarah Johnson (.556, 5-0-9), Sr. MB Jodi Huddleston (.667, 4-0-6) and Fr. MB Erin Braun (.571, 4-0-7) … the Seawolves hit .484 in the second set and .500 in the third, sparked by Johnson’s best effort of the season, which included 3 digs and 3 total blocks … UAA has won seven in a row against MSUB and now leads the all-time series 39-10.

BIG MACKEY ATTACK: So. RS Julia Mackey was named the GNAC Red Lion co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, following UAA’s league sweep of SPU and MSUB … the Fairbanks (West Valley HS) product posted 26 kills and a .345 attack percentage … on Thursday against SPU, Mackey led the Seawolves with 13 kills in a 3-1 victory, adding 3 block assists … two days later, she slammed 13 kills on career-high .650 hitting in a sweep of MSUB, helping the Seawolves to a .437 attack percentage – a team record for a GNAC match … it is the first career player-of-the-week honor for Mackey, who holds GNAC stats ranks of 9th in kills per set (3.10) and 16th in attack pct. (.243) … Mackey has delivered double-digit kills in eight of 14 matches.

TEAM NOTES: The Seawolves committed only two attack errors in the final two sets against MSUB on Saturday, breaking their old GNAC mark of .419 (46-7-93) against Northwest Nazarene, Nov. 3, 2011 … it was the sixth time this century a UAA team topped the .400 mark and was the highest percentage since hitting .448 against St. Cloud State, Aug. 25, 2000 … the Seawolves rank No. 3 in attack percentage (.215), blocks per set (2.38) and aces per set (1.29) in the GNAC team stats … UAA is now 43-8 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex since 2009; the Seawolves have not lost consecutive home matches under head coach Chris Green, who took over in 2008 … the Seawolves’ loss to UC San Diego dropped them to 8-24 overall against ranked opponents under Green; prior to Green’s arrival in 2008, UAA had lost 32 straight matches to ranked foes.

’WOLF BITES: So. OH Katelynn Zanders has posted double-digit kills in eight of the last nine matches, including 12 kills on career-best .550 hitting (12-1-20) against MSU Billings … Zanders is tied for the team lead and is 9th in the GNAC stats with 3.10 kills per set … the South Anchorage HS product also ranks second on the Seawolves with 2.51 digs per set and leads the team with three double-doubles … Sr. S/DS Siobhan Johansen has moved into 20th place on UAA’s career list for sets played, now with 340, and Saturday she will move into the top 20 in matches played with her 96th appearance … the Palmer (Colony HS) product has played in nearly every set of her career, ranking in the program’s top 20 in assists (11th, 1,284), assists per set (12th, 3.78) and digs (18th, 845) … Johansen dished a UAA season-high 39 assists in the win over Cal Poly Pomona … Sr. MB Jodi Huddleston currently holds GNAC top-10 ranks in attack pct. (7th, .307) and blocks per set (1.19) … the reigning GNAC Newcomer of the Year has hit better than .400 in five of the last seven matches, including .619 (14-1-21) in a 5-set win over Cal Poly Pomona … in UAA’s seven home matches thus far, Huddleston has racked up 38 total blocks, including a career-high nine total and eight block assists vs. Colorado Christian … Jr. OH Brooke Pottle has made an impressive debut in her first month, ranking third on the team in both kills (2.19 kps) and digs (2.36 dps) … the transfer from Glendale (Ariz.) College has a pair of double-digit kills performances thus far, including her first career double-double with 12 kills-12 digs vs. Pomona … Pottle — who played at Div. I Air Force as a freshman — also has four matches with double-digit digs … another JC transfer, Jr. L Quinn Barker has taken over on the back row, ranking 4th in the GNAC with 4.67 digs per set … Barker has topped the 20-dig plateau three times, including 25 against Dominguez Hills and 22 against Pomona … Barker has been an all-tournament selection at both the UCSD and SpringHill Suites invitationals … Fr. MB Erin Braun has made an immediate impact, posting GNAC top-10 ranks in hitting pct. (6th, .309) and blocking (10th, 1.02 bps) … the Southern Californian boosted her numbers with 6 total blocks (4 asst/2 solo) against SPU, while her lone dig against the Falcons led to the winning kill … Fr. S Morgan Hooe — the 2011 Alaska Gatorade Player of the Year at South Anchorage HS — has been solid in her role splitting setting duties with Johansen thus far, averaging 4.22 assists and 2.00 digs per set … Hooe had 17 assists — including a spectacular feed to Pottle on match point — and a personal-best 16 digs against SPU … Jr. MB Maureen Sabado has delivered at least three kills in 13 straight matches, including nine in the win over Pomona … So. OH Sarah Johnson came off the bench with season-best of 5 kills and .556 hitting in UAA’s win over MSUB … one of six Seawolves to play in all 49 sets thus far, Johnson also equaled her career-high for the fourth time with 3 total blocks.
