PORTLAND, Ore. – Alaska Anchorage right-side hitter Julia Mackey has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Red Lion co-Offensive Player of the Week for volleyball, the league office announced Monday.
The sophomore from Fairbanks (West Valley HS) posted 26 kills and a .345 attack percentage in home wins over Seattle Pacific and Montana State Billings to start the GNAC schedule.
On Thursday against SPU, Mackey led the Seawolves with 13 kills in a 3-1 victory, adding three block assists. Two days later, she slammed 13 kills on career-high .650 hitting in a sweep of MSUB, helping the Seawolves to a .437 attack percentage – a team record for a GNAC match.
It is the first career player-of-the-week honor for Mackey, who shared the award with Alaska Faribanks’ Sam Harthun.
The Seawolves (8-6, 2-0) travel south for their first GNAC road matches this week, starting Thursday at Central Washington (6 p.m. ADT).
