SCOUTING THE CALIFORNIANS: UAA’s four opponents this week all hail from the California Collegiate Athletic Association, meaning the results are important in terms of head-to-head competition against fellow West Region teams … Cal Poly Pomona opened play last week with losses to Harding (0-3) and GNAC squads Seattle Pacific (1-3) and Central Washington (1-3) before beating Fort Lewis (3-1) …18th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino, which saw its streak of West Region titles come to an end in 2012, split its opening matches at its own tourney last week, defeating Fort Lewis (3-0) and Regis (3-0), and losing to SPU (2-3) and CWU (1-3) … a rejuvenated Cal State Dominguez Hills came just a 5-set loss at Point Loma Nazarene from a perfect opening week, with the Toros scoring wins over Azusa Pacific (3-2), Texas A&M Int’l (3-0) and MSU Billings (3-0) … 13th-ranked UC San Diego is already the only unbeaten team in the CCAA, sweeping all four of its opening matches against CWU, Regis, Harding and SPU.
