PORTLAND, Ore. – Alaska Anchorage student-athletes posted a league-high six 4.0 grade-point averages and landed 17 total honorees Tuesday as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference announced its second annual GNAC Faculty Athletic Representatives’ Scholar-Athlete Awards.

A total of 139 GNAC student-athletes – 98 women and 41 men – received the award, presented to the most outstanding scholar-athletes at each of the league’s 10 universities. To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.85. Three men also have perfect 4.0 GPAs – Etienne Richard (skiing) and Teancum Stafford (basketball) of Alaska Anchorage and Michael Fehrenbach of Alaska Fairbanks. In addition three Simon Fraser athletes also earned GPAs of 4.0 or better in the Canadian system, which awards 4.33 points for an A-plus.
