INDIANAPOLIS – Alaska Anchorage freshman M’rcy Matsunami has qualified to compete on vault at the NCAA Division I West Regional Championships, set for Saturday, Apr. 6 in Corvallis, Ore.

The Seawolf rookie will be one of five individual vaulters who will compete alongside full squads from No. 6 UCLA, No. 7 Louisiana State, No. 18 Arizona, No. 20 Ohio State, No. 24 Central Michigan and North Carolina State.

The competition gets under way at 5 p.m. ADT at Gill Coliseum.

Matsunami, from Omaha, Neb., earned a 9.795 regional qualifying score to become the 12th UAA gymnast ever to qualify for D-I regionals. She posted season-highs of 9.85 on Jan. 12 at Rutgers and Jan. 25 vs. Seattle Pacific, and she was the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 24-30.
