SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: The Huskies entertain the Seawolves following a league split at Nebraska Omaha, Feb. 1-2 ... UNO won 4-3, before MTU responded with a 2-1 win ... the Huskies have struggled at home as of late, winning just once in the last eight games (1-5-2) ... MTU’s last win at home came against Bemidji State (4-0) on Jan. 18 ... the Huskies will also take on Northern Michigan on Tuesday, Feb. 12 ... this weekend is also Winter Carnival on the MTU campus ... individually, the Huskies are receiving 8-14–22 totals from freshman F Alex Petan and 8-12–20 totals from sophomore David Johnstone ... MTU has dressed freshman Pheonix Copley in 15 games between the pipes, where he has posted a .911 save percentage, 2.80 goals-against average and a 5-9-1 record ... senior G Kevin Genoe (.902 sv%, 3.28 gaa, 3-3-3) has seen action in 11 games ... head coach Mel Pearson is in his second season at MTU after posting a 16-19-4 record in 2011-12.
LAST TIME vs. MICHIGAN TECH: The Huskies took the WCHA sweep on Jan. 14-15, 2012 with 6-2, 6-4 scores ... on Jan. 14, UAA’s Derek Docken scored first, but MTU received four straight goals before F Tyler Currier returned UAA to the score sheet ... Blake Pietila netted the final strike for the Huskies ... on Jan. 15, the Seawolves were able to climb out of an early three-goal deficit and even took the lead in the third, but were unable to hang on as the Huskies responded with three straight goals in the final 15 minutes – including a hat trick by Jordan Baker – for the series sweep.
LAST TIME OUT: The Seawolves face Michigan Tech following a pair of ties with visiting Colorado College at the Sullivan Arena, Feb. 1-2 ... the teams tied 2-2 on Friday and 3-3 on Saturday ... on Feb. 1, the Seawolves and Tigers traded first-period and third-period goals to send the game into OT ... scoring for UAA was freshman F Blake Tatchell and sophomore F Scott Allen ... on Feb. 2, the Seawolves led 2-0 at the mid way point of the game before the Tigers responded with three of their own – including a penalty shot ... with the extra attacker, senior D Scott Warner netted the game-tying goal with 1:13 left in regulation to send the game into extra minutes.
SEAWOLF BITES: Over the past weekend against Colorado College, the Seawolves forged their sixth and seventh ties of the season – the seventh tie this season ties Clarkson for the most in all of college hockey and is one short of the program record of eight (2007-08) … the ties give UAA a 14-game winless streak ... throughout the weekend, UAA outshot CC, 52-38, for a three-game streak of outshooting its foe ... UAA also outshot Wisconsin, 22-19, on Jan. 26 ... the 31-21 advantage on Friday night was also a season high and just the third time of the season that UAA has posted 30+ shots on goal – all three games have ended in a tie ... on Saturday night, UAA posted two power-play goals for the first time since Nov. 24 vs. Bemidji State and kept CC scoreless on a season-high six power-play opportunities ... UAA was also tagged for a season-high nine penalties and permitted its first penalty shot goal since March 11, 2011 ... the junior class is leading the Seawolves with 37 points, six power-play tallies and is tied with the sophomore class with 14 goals ... the freshman class is a close second with 35 points and a team-high 26 assists ... after the OT games this past weekend, the Seawolves have played in eight games that have gone into sudden death, going 0-1-7 ... UAA is faring much better on Saturday nights, going 2-7-4 compared to 1-9-3 on Friday nights ... the Seawolves are 2-4-3 when keeping an opponent scoreless on the man advantage ... the Seawolves currently have four shorthanded goals – the most since scoring 10 in 2010 ... currently, 10 Seawolves have dressed in all 24 contests ... the Seawolves completed the month of October with a 2-2-2 (.500) record – their best winning percentage in the opening month since the 2008-09 slate when they went 4-2-1 (.642) ... UAA earned its first WCHA point of the season with the 3-3 tie on Oct. 27 – UAA’s first non-loss at UND since Nov. 14, 2008 ... at the completion of four of the six non-conference games this season, UAA is 2-1-1 … Dave Shyiak is 18-8-6 (.656) all-time in the first four games … the Seawolves claimed their second straight Kendall Hockey Classic title on Oct. 12-13 … UAA is now, 22-14-10 overall in the Classic ... PLAYER NOTES: Picking up his fourth multi-point game was UAA’s point leader freshman F Blake Tatchell (6-12–18) ... Tatchell posted a goal and an assist on Feb. 1 and an assist Feb. 2, giving him 2-3–5 totals in the last four games and 3-5–8 totals in the last 10 games ... Tatchell’s six goals rank him tied for No. 31 on the all-time UAA rookie list and are the most for a UAA freshman since Matt Bailey posted 10 in 2010-11 ... Tatchell (.68) is tied for No. 5 on the WCHA freshman scoring list ... Tatchell leads UAA by scoring at least one point in 14 of the 26 games this season ... scoring UAA’s team-leading 10th goal of the season was sophomore F Scott Allen on Friday ... since joining the line with Tatchell and junior F Jordan Kwas, Allen has posted 2-1–3 totals and is 3-2–5 in the last eight games ... Allen (10-4–14), who was named to the Kendall Hockey Classic all-tournament team in October, has easily bypassed his goal total from his rookie campaign (3) … Allen also leads UAA with a .222 scoring percentage, placing 45 shots on net ... Kwas, who is currently in a four-game point streak, is UAA’s second-leading scorer with 15 points – tied with Bailey … Kwas also owns a team-high three PPG’s this season and leads all current UAA skaters with 8 PPG, having just 14 career even-strength tallies ... the Cochrane, Alberta, native now leads current UAA skaters with 53 points ... posting a multi-point game on Feb. 2 was Bailey with a goal and an assist – he leads all current UAA skaters with 10 career multi-point games and 25 career goals … breaking a 13-game scoreless drought was senior F Alex Gellert, who registered an assist on sophomore D Austin Coldwell’s second strike of the season and third career power-play tally … also scoring his second goal of the season was senior D Scott Warner, while senior F Daniel Naslund posted an assist on Saturday after missing Friday’s game with an illness.
INJURY UPDATE: Junior F Brett Cameron fractured his collarbone on Nov. 23 against Bemidji State and is still on the inactive list.
