SCOUTING THE TIGERS: The Tigers enter the series with UAA following a bye weekend and a WCHA split with Minnesota Duluth, Jan. 18-19 ... UMD won on Jan. 18 (3-2), before CC took a 5-1 in on Jan. 19 ... the Tigers are 2-6 in the last eight games with sweeps by St. Cloud State and Nebraska Omaha ... CC is led offensively by senior F Rylan Schwarts (11-22–33) and senior F William Rapuzzi (13-17–30) , an Anchorage native ... splitting time in the crease are senior G Joe Howe (15 gp, 6-7-1, .906 sv%, 3.25 gaa) and junior G Josh Thorimbert (14 gp, 4-7-1, .875 sv%, 3.69 gaa).
LAST TIME vs. COLORADO COLLEGE: The Seawolves faced the then-No. 6 ranked Colorado College Tigers in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Dec. 9-10 ... UAA won on Dec. 9, 6-3, before losing in the last three seconds on Dec. 10, 4-3 ... on Dec. 9, UAA was led by junior F Mitch Bruijsten, who posted his first collegiate hat trick, including two power-play goals and one shorthanded ... also scoring for UAA was senior F/D Curtis Leinweber, D Austin Coldwell and senior D Brad Gorham ... on Dec. 10, UAA had a 3-1 lead early in the second, including two goals by F Brett Cameron, before surrendering three unanswered goals – two in the second and one in the third – giving CC the WCHA split ... the CC game-winning goal was scored with just 2.8 seconds left in regulation.
LAST TIME OUT: The Seawolves will take on Colorado College following a WCHA sweep by the ranked Wisconsin Badgers at the Kohl Center, Jan. 25-26 ... the Badgers won, 5-2, 2-1 ... on Friday evening, UW used two goals apiece in the first and the second and one in the third for the league win ... UAA’s tallies were netted by freshman F Blake Tatchell and sophomore F Scott Allen ... on Saturday, the Badgers posted a 2-0 lead in the second period before junior F Jordan Kwas cut the lead in half with a minute remaining in the fame ... the Seawolves were unable to find the equalizer in the final period.
SEAWOLF BITES: With the Wisconsin sweep on Jan. 25-26, UAA is in a 12-game winless streak with its only tie coming on Jan. 18 vs. Minnesota State … on Jan. 25, the Seawolves received all of its points from UAA’s newly formed second line ... following the change to Jordan Kwas’ academic year, the junior class is leading the Seawolves with 33 points, 13 goals and five power-play tallies ... the freshman class is a close second with 32 points and a team-high 24 assists ... on Jan. 26, the Seawolves were called for a season-low-tying one penalty and is now averaging 13.2 minutes per league contest ... after the OT game on Jan. 18, the Seawolves have played in six games that have gone into sudden death, going 0-1-5 ... UAA is faring much better on Saturday nights, going 2-7-3 compared to 1-9-2 on Friday nights ... the Seawolves are 2-4-2 when keeping an opponent scoreless on the man advantage ... the Seawolves currently have four shorthanded goals – the most since scoring 10 in 2010 ... currently, 10 Seawolves have dressed in all 24 contests ... the Seawolves completed the month of October with a 2-2-2 (.500) record – their best winning percentage in the opening month since the 2008-09 slate when they went 4-2-1 (.642) ... UAA earned its first WCHA point of the season with the 3-3 tie on Oct. 27 – UAA’s first non-loss at UND since Nov. 14, 2008 ... at the completion of four of the six non-conference games this season, UAA is 2-1-1 … Dave Shyiak is 18-8-6 (.656) all-time in the first four games … the Seawolves claimed their second straight Kendall Hockey Classic title on Oct. 12-13 … UAA is now, 22-14-10 overall in the Classic ... UAA is now 8-3-5 in under Shyiak in the Kendall Hockey Classic, with titles in 2006, 2011 and 2012 ... the Seawolves are now 6-0-2 in season-openers under Shyiak ... UAA hasn’t lost a season-opener since 2000 against Michigan State (5-4); since then, UAA has gone 9-0-3 in season-openers ... the shutout on Oct. 12 was only the second for UAA in a season-opener in 35 years of program history, along with a 4-0 win against Niagara in the 1999 Classic.
PLAYER NOTES: UAA’s new lineup of sophomore F Scott Allen (1-1–2), freshman F Blake Tatchell (1-1–2) and junior F Jordan Kwas (0-2–2) was the only line to furnish a point on Jan. 25 vs. Wisconsin ... the multi-point games were Allen’s and Kwas’ fifth and Tatchell’s third of their careers ... with the two points, Tatchell continues to lead UAA with 15 points, while Allen is tied for second with Kwas with 13 points, while leading UAA in goals (9) … Tatchell (.60) is tied for No. 8 on the WCHA freshman scoring list ... Tatchell leads UAA by scoring at least one point in 12 of the 24 games this season ... Allen (9-4–13), who was named to the Kendall Hockey Classic all-tournament team in October, has easily bypassed his goal total from his rookie campaign (3) … Allen also leads UAA with a .237 scoring percentage, placing 38 shots on net ... Kwas, who scored UAA’s lone goal on Jan. 26, is second for UAA with seven tallies … Kwas also posted two goals and an assist on Jan. 4 for his first career three-point game ... Kwas’ first tally was on the man advantage, giving him a team-high three PPG this season ... Kwas also leads all current UAA skaters with 8 PPG, having just 14 career even-strength tallies ... the Cochrane, Alberta, native now leads current UAA skaters with 51 points ... assisting on Kwas’s Saturday goal were juniors Quinn Sproule and Matt Bailey … Bailey, from Oakbank, Manitoba, has scored at least one point in 10 games this season, including two multi-point games ... in the midst of a 12-game scoreless streak is senior F Alex Gellert, matching UAA’s current 12-game winless streak ... Gellert is fifth on the team with eight points and has five goals – already bypassing his goal total from any of his previous campaigns
