PORTLAND, Ore. – The Alaska Anchorage women’s basketball team raked in a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference honors Monday, following a sweep of last week’s road games.

Sophomore Alli Madison was named the league’s Red Lion Player of the Week, while the entire squad earned the GNAC Team of the Week award after jumping back into the postseason tournament race with wins at Western Oregon and Saint Martin’s.

For Madison, who has been filling in for the injured Sasha King at point guard, it was a banner week as the Seattle (Kennedy HS) product set career highs in points, rebounds, assists, steals and minutes. In Thursday’s 63-54 victory at WOU, she matched her career-high with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and dished three assists with just two turnovers in 36 minutes. She also grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against the Wolves for her first career double-double.  On Saturday, she improved with 17 points, including 2 of 3 three-pointers, while adding 5 assists, 5 rebounds and a career-high 4 steals in 40 minutes.

UAA earned the Team of the Week award – in its inaugural season – for the first time. The Seawolves played both games with only eight active players, two of whom average less than 4 minutes. In addition to Madison’s 40-minute effort, junior forward Kylie Burns went the entire way at SMU and senior forward Alysa Horn did the same at WOU.

The victories were UAA’s second and third straight on the road, where they remain this week to face nationally ranked Simon Fraser (Thur., Jan. 31, 6:30 pm AST) and Western Washington (Sat., Feb. 2, 4:15 pm AST).
